32 blokes came along to the inaugural Cornerstone Church Men’s Camp. It was a top weekend away and gave the guys a rare chance to get to know each other outside of church and have some fun. We took a bus out to a farm near Bridgetown and, after a hilarious get to know you session, we hiked the 5km through the bush to the Gifford’s farm. After a very brief stop for lunch (the blokes just couldn’t wait to get into the action) we spent the afternoon building a camp shelter, digging long drops, chopping wood and other manly activities. The goal was to set up this area of the farm for future camps and blokes ministry. It was brilliant to see all the guys getting stuck into it together.
After a well deserved swim in the dam to wash off the dust, we set about eating our way through 2 whole sheep (we were cave men at their best). Around the camp fire that night, Nige led us through an old testament bible reading which challenged all of us that when we are weak God is strong. It was such a great time to listen to each others journeys and encourage each to keep trusting in our awesome Lord above all else.
Sunday morning, after a great night camped under the stars, the guys spent an hour in solitude just reading, praying, walking and listening to God before coming back together for a cooked brekkie and a chance to share what God had been speaking to them about. With new relationships formed, sore muscles and blisters a plenty and our walk with God greatly encouraged, we headed for home. Cant wait for the next one!
